ALEKSEY GOLOVIN
Born in 1987 in Leningrad, Aleksey Golovin currently lives and works in St. Petersburg. He has been a member of the Professional Union of Artists of Russia since 2018. Aleksey is a recognized pioneer in a unique assemblage genre that utilizes construction screws, making him the only realist artist in the country systematically developing this technique. Before turning to art full-time, he earned an engineering degree from the St. Petersburg State Transport University and spent over a decade as a leading engineer for major international companies in Russia and Germany. Driven by a lifelong passion for painting, he eventually left his successful engineering career to fully dedicate himself to conceptual art. Golovin’s creative method bridges engineering precision with fine art, exploring the synthesis of materials and their physical limits. The artist applies detailed, realistic oil paintings onto MDF boards, after which he manually drives thousands of pre-painted steel screws directly into the artwork. This grueling, meticulous process transforms cold hardware into a vibrant, light-reflective surface. Because of the rhythmic pattern of the metal screw heads, the paintings physically shift and change perspective as the viewer moves around them. In his practice, Golovin moves along two distinct creative vectors. As a media artist, he crafts bright, nostalgic, and subtly ironic narratives centered around everyday human emotions and life’s simple moments. As an institutional artist, he deeply explores complex psychological patterns and contemporary social issues. The core themes of his artistic universe focus on the duality of human nature, the search for identity amidst digital chaos, and the human capacity to face one’s destiny with inner strength and without illusions. Recognized as one of the most innovative figures on the contemporary Russian art scene, Golovin maintains an active exhibition profile. His breakthrough solo projects have solidified his reputation both locally and internationally. His artworks are regularly featured at major venues and art fairs, and are held in museum collections and prestigious private archives worldwide, including Italy, Germany, Canada, and Thailand.
